Common mistakes: print scaling and margins

Turn off headers and footers while you are there. A page number and URL printed across your grid is annoying on a sparse dot grid and genuinely hard to remove on a 2 mm engineering grid.
Do not double up on margins. The margin field inside Custom PRD build already reserves space around the drawing, so leave the browser margin setting on Default or None instead of stacking another 10 mm on top of the 10 mm you typed.
A margin of 0 mm gives full bleed, and most home printers physically cannot print to the paper edge — the last rows or columns get clipped, which is exactly what the clipping warning is telling you. How do you choose spacing that divides evenly?
A grid only looks symmetrical when the printable width and height are whole multiples of the spacing. The spec readout flags the mismatch, and the leftover strip falls on the right or bottom edge of the sheet.
Worked example on Letter: 8.5 × 11 in with half-inch margins leaves 7.5 × 10 in of printable area. At a quarter-inch spacing that is exactly 30 columns by 40 rows — 1,200 cells, the classic quad-ruled layout, with no partial row anywhere.
A4 is harder. Its 210 × 297 mm dimensions differ by 87 mm, and 87 is not a multiple of 5, so no single uniform margin can make a 5 mm grid land exactly on both axes. With the default 10 mm margin, 190 mm gives 38 columns exactly, while 277 mm gives 55 rows with 2 mm left over. If the leftover bothers you, try 3 mm spacing with a 9 mm margin: 192 mm becomes 64 columns and 279 mm becomes 93 rows, both exact.
The spacing field takes 1–50 mm in 0.5 mm steps, or 0.05–2 in in 0.05 in steps, and any request wider than a quarter of the sheet is refused, which stops you generating a grid with only a handful of lines on it.
Line weight and color choices that print clean
Line weight is expressed in points because print CSS uses pt, not px: hairline, thin (the 0.25 pt default) and medium. Thin works out to roughly 0.09 mm — clean on a laser printer, but hairline lines can drop out on a tired inkjet or a faded toner cartridge, so print a test page before a long run.
Light gray (#9CA3AF) is a sensible default. It reads clearly on white paper, sits behind pencil and pen marks instead of competing with them, and uses far less toner than a black grid. Black at 5 mm looks heavy and can soak through thin copy paper.
Custom colors accept 3- or 6-digit hex only, such as #333 or #333333. Named colors, rgba() values and 8-digit hex are rejected, so convert the value before pasting it into the field.
