Timezone Converter: One Time, Eight Zones, No Guesswork

Reviewed by the OnlineFree.app team · Updated

Key points

  • Timezone Converter converts one date and time into up to eight local times instantly, entirely in the browser.
  • Each result row shows the local time, the offset against your source zone, and a Next day or Previous day badge.
  • Offsets are date-specific: Seoul to New York is −14h in January and −13h in July because of US daylight saving.
  • Use the ISO 8601 UTC line, not the human-readable row, when a machine will parse the value.
  • Three-letter abbreviations are ambiguous; confirm the IANA zone name such as Asia/Seoul before trusting a conversion.

What Timezone Converter does in one screen

Timezone Converter turns a single date and time into up to eight local times at once. You enter a wall-clock time, pick the source zone it belongs to, add target cities or IANA zones, and the result list updates as you type — no submit button, no account, no page reload.

Each row in the results shows the city or zone name, the local time, the date, an offset badge against your source (for example +2h or −14h), and a Next day or Previous day marker when the calendar date moves. Your source zone is pinned to the top of the list with a tinted background so it stays the reference point.

Above the rows sits a UTC reference line with the matching ISO 8601 string, which is the part you actually paste into a calendar entry, a cron file, or an agent schedule. Everything is computed in the browser with the built-in Intl API, so the times you type never leave the tab — see OnlineFree.app for the rest of the browser-only toolset.

How does a timezone converter handle day changes?

Day rollovers are the part people get wrong by hand, so the tool flags them explicitly. Take 10 March 2026 at 09:00 in Asia/Seoul. Asia/Tokyo reads 09:00 with a ±0h badge. Asia/Shanghai reads 08:00 at −1h. UTC reads 00:00 the same day, −9h. Europe/London reads 00:00, also −9h, because the UK is still on GMT in mid-March.

Then America/New_York reads 19:00 with a Previous day badge and −14h. The time is not wrong and the badge is not a rounding error — Seoul is 14 hours ahead of New York, so 09:00 in Seoul lands the previous evening in New York. Without the badge, a reader skims 19:00 and assumes same-day.

The badge is computed for the exact date you entered, not for today. That matters because the offset between two cities is not a constant: it shrinks or grows by an hour whenever one side enters or leaves daylight saving time on a different date.

UTC is the anchor, offsets are not constants

Internally every conversion passes through UTC, which is why the reference line at the top of the results matters more than it looks. A time like 2026-03-10T00:00:00Z is unambiguous in a way that "9am Seoul time" never is, and it is the format most schedulers, log pipelines, and configuration files expect.

Watch how the badge changes with the season. 15 January 2026 at 09:00 in Seoul gives New York 19:00 on 14 January at −14h, because New York is on EST (UTC−5). 15 July 2026 at 09:00 in Seoul gives New York 20:00 on 14 July at −13h, because New York is on EDT (UTC−4) while Seoul stays on KST with no DST. Same wall time, same two cities, different offset.

The zone data comes from your browser's copy of the IANA time zone database, which is authoritative but only as fresh as your last browser update — see the IANA time zone database. For a deadline months out in a country that has changed its rules recently, verify against an official government source before you commit.

How Timezone Converter compares to the alternatives

World-clock websites are built for the current moment: they show what time it is right now in six cities. The moment you need an arbitrary date — a launch window next quarter, a handover at 06:00 — they stop helping, because there is nothing to type into. This tool starts from your chosen instant, not from now.

Calendar apps handle the meeting-invite problem well, with attendees, recurrence, and reminders, but they require an account, a round trip, and often an email. For the pure question "what does 09:00 KST equal in EST", opening a calendar to answer it is slow. Command-line tools such as TZ=America/New_York date, or Python's zoneinfo, are exact and scriptable but not glanceable across eight zones at once.

The limits here are deliberate. Eight target zones, no saved city presets, no history, no meeting poll, no map. Those features would turn a one-screen answer into a multi-screen app. If eight is not enough for your case, the copyable result list and the ISO 8601 string are there to bridge into whatever system you use next.

Where timezone conversions go wrong

Three-letter abbreviations are the most common source of error. CST can mean China Standard Time (UTC+8), Central Standard Time (UTC−6), or Cuba Standard Time. The searchable selector accepts common aliases like KST, EST, and JST so you can find zones quickly, but the stored value is always an IANA name such as Asia/Seoul — confirm the row label before you trust a number.

The second mistake is entering a wall time in the wrong source zone. If you copy 14:00 out of a Seoul message and leave the source on your own detected zone, every row below is off by the difference. The pinned source row at the top exists precisely so you can eyeball it against what you expected.

The third is scheduling recurring jobs by local time. A daily 02:30 job in a DST-observing zone may not exist on the spring-forward date, and may run twice on the fall-back date. Write the schedule in UTC, keep the ISO 8601 string, and re-check any critical window around transition weekends with Timezone Converter before shipping it.

Getting the ISO 8601 string into your tools

The UTC reference line follows the ISO 8601 standard, published by ISO, which is why it drops cleanly into databases, log queries, and configuration files that reject free-text times. Copy it, not the human-readable row, when a machine will parse the value.

For humans, use Copy result to grab the plain-text list of every row. It is a fast way to paste a handover table into a chat thread: city, local time, day marker, and offset, all in one block, without retyping anything or trusting your own arithmetic at 11pm.

Frequently asked questions

Is Timezone Converter free, and does it store the times I enter?

Yes, it is free and requires no account. All calculations run inside your browser using the built-in Intl time zone data, so the date and time you type is never sent to a server and no history is kept. Reloading the page gives you a clean form prefilled with the current local time.

How many timezones can I convert at once?

You can add up to eight target zones or cities, which produces a list of eight rows plus your pinned source row at the top. The eight-zone cap keeps the results readable on one screen. For more, use Copy result, paste the text elsewhere, then change your selection and copy again.

Does Timezone Converter account for daylight saving time?

Yes. Offsets are calculated for the exact date you enter rather than for today, so a January conversion and a July conversion of the same wall time can show different offset badges. The rules come from your browser's copy of the IANA time zone database, so keep the browser updated for recently changed regions.

What is the ISO 8601 string at the top of the results for?

It is the UTC equivalent of your chosen instant, written in the ISO 8601 format such as 2026-03-10T00:00:00Z. That single unambiguous string is what you paste into calendar entries, cron definitions, database queries, or agent schedules, because it needs no further interpretation of zone or date.

Can I convert a future date for meeting planning?

Yes, any date and time works, including months ahead. Treat far-future conversions as provisional: governments occasionally change daylight saving rules or offset boundaries, and your browser may not yet carry the update. Confirm high-stakes deadlines against an official government or IANA source before publishing them.
