How it works
A clean record in three small steps.
Record the movement
Add a sale or expense with its date, amount and a short note. The date defaults to today.
Watch the totals settle
Money in, money out and net profit recalculate instantly for the month or search you are viewing.
Close the month
Filter to a month, check the totals, then download the view as a CSV for your records or bookkeeper.
Keep it simple
A cash book records money when it moves.
That is different from an invoice list. Record the sale when the customer pays and the expense when you pay it. This keeps your cash position honest and your month-end check fast.
Net profit
money in − money out = net profit
Money in
Sales that reached the till
- Counter and market sales
- Paid online orders
- Other shop income
Money out
Costs you actually paid
- Stock and supplies
- Rent, utilities and wages
- Transport and packaging
FAQ
Questions from the counter.
No accounting jargon required. Just a record you can understand and use.
Where is my bookkeeping data stored?+
In this browser’s local storage. It is not uploaded to a server or shared with anyone. Clearing site data or using a different device will give you a different book.
Is net profit the same as cash on hand?+
Not quite. Net profit follows your current month and search filters. Cash on hand is opening cash plus every recorded movement, so it always reflects the whole book.
Should I record unpaid invoices?+
For a cash book, wait until the customer pays. An invoice is useful to track what you are owed, but it is not cash in the till yet.
Can I change currency later?+
Yes, but it changes the display label only. Existing amounts are not converted. Keep one currency per book and use the CSV for a hand-off.
Does it calculate sales tax?+
No. Record the amount that moved through the till. Tax rules vary by place, so ask a qualified bookkeeper or tax adviser for filing advice.
