Invoice Generator — Free Excel Invoice Template
Type your business and client details, add a couple of line items, and watch a proper A4 VAT invoice assemble itself. Download it as a real, editable .xlsx spreadsheet or print it straight to PDF. Nothing is uploaded — it all happens in your browser.
Build your invoice
Totals recalculate on every keystroke. The preview on the right is exactly what the .xlsx and PDF will contain.
Live A4 invoice preview
What you downloadHow it works
Business name and address, client, invoice number, date and payment terms. Everything is pre-filled with sensible UK defaults you can overwrite.
Describe the work, set quantity and unit price. The subtotal, VAT and total due recalculate as you type — no submit button, no page reloads.
Get a genuine .xlsx with each figure in its own cell, ready for Excel, Google Sheets or your bookkeeper — or print to PDF straight from the browser.
Built for one-invoice-today jobs
The download is a true .xlsx workbook: description, quantity, unit price and amount each land in their own cells so your accountant can edit or re-total them.
Choose 0%, 5%, 20% or a custom rate. At 0% the tax line reads “VAT not applicable” instead of pretending a zero-rate charge was made.
Amounts are formatted with the right symbol and thousands separators via the browser's own currency formatting — and the same symbol is used in the workbook number format.
Blank rows are skipped, non-numeric prices are flagged inline, quantity is clamped to 0–9999, and the download stays locked until at least one valid item exists.
The preview is an A4 page; printing hides the controls and the site chrome and prints only the invoice, so “Save as PDF” gives you a clean document.
No sign-up, no account, no upload. Your client's details never leave the browser tab you are typing in.
FAQ
Is the downloaded file a real Excel file?
Yes. It is an .xlsx workbook (Office Open XML) built in your browser, so it opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice. Values are plain numbers — no formulas to break.
Do I need to be VAT registered?
No. Choose 0% and the invoice prints a “VAT not applicable” line with no tax charged. If you are registered, use 20%, 5% or your own custom rate.
How do I get a PDF instead of the spreadsheet?
Press “Print / Save as PDF”. The print stylesheet hides the form and site chrome, leaving just the A4 invoice — pick “Save as PDF” as the printer in the dialog.
What details must a UK invoice include?
A unique invoice number, your business name and address, the client's name and address, the invoice date, the date payment is due, a description of the goods or services, and the amount due. VAT-registered businesses also show their VAT number and the rate charged.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser and is lost when you close the tab, so download the .xlsx (or print the PDF) before you leave.
